| dc.description.abstract | The advent of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is significantly transforming the landscape of translation project management (TPM), presenting both challenges and opportunities for professionals in this field. In response to this evolving scenario, this chapter proposes an empirical study based on interviews with practising Spanish-speaking project managers (PMs) to elucidate the multifaceted impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the competences of translation PMs. The participants, representing diverse professional backgrounds and organisational contexts, provided insights into their use of AI tools, levels of AI adoption, and training approaches. Using semi-structured interviews, the data gathered have been analysed qualitatively with ATLAS.ti for content analysis purposes, revealing how AI technologies are reshaping daily practices and necessitating new competences in areas such as workflow optimisation, decision-making, and technical proficiency. The findings highlight the dynamic nature of competences in TPM and underscore the need for continuous learning and adaptation to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving industry. By identifying essential AI-related competences and offering guidance for adapting training programmes for future professionals, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of how AI integration is redefining the role of PMs within translation studies and practice. | |
