Abstract
This paper aims to analyse the relationship between Isabel Miller’s Patience & Sarah
(1968) and its homonymous operatic adaptation (1998) – considered the “first lesbian
historical novel” and the first lesbian opera, respectively. I argue that both cultural
products act as queer assemblages of time and space in their affective treatment of queer ideas and historical notions.
