Abstract

Non-linear acoustics offers a new range of acoustic applications that are currently being exploited. The parametric nonlinearity, that is, the appearance of low frequencies with high emission, has a special interest in different fields. This work shows, first of all, a systematic exposition of the theoretical framework in which the bases of the so-called parametric non-linear effect are based. Regarding this behaviour, we discuss analytically how to solve the problem. Subsequently, parametric emission experiments are carried out in the air and in water, using the same transducer in order to compare the results with the theoretical part. Finally, based on the behaviours obtained from the non-linear acoustic field, a series of applications has been discussed for a specific nonlinear effect.
