Abstract
Los problemas para garantizar a las tropas de los presidios norteafricanos un abastecimiento
periódico de alimentos y mercancías y el cobro puntual de su soldada surgen ya en los primeros
tiempos de la conquista, en el reinado de los Reyes Católicos. En un intento de solución, la
administración carolina estableció la firma de asientos con mercaderes y banqueros para la
paga y abastecimiento de algunos presidios. En este artículo se analiza con mayor detalle el
firmado en 1529 para Orán y Mazalquivir. Este contrato abarca tres ámbitos: el arrendamiento
de las rentas de la Corona en el norte de África, la paga de las guarniciones y su abastecimiento.
Las fuentes documentales, que son la base de este trabajo, proceden del Archivo General de
Simancas. En concreto, de las secciones de Consejo Real, Contaduría del Sueldo, 1ª serie y
Guerra y Marina, serie de Libros Registro
Problems in order to guarantee a periodic supply of food and goods and the one-off payments of salary to the troops in fortresses in North Africa already appeared at the beginning of the conquest, during the kingdom of los Reyes Catolicos. In an attempt to provide a solution, the caroline administration established the signing of asientos with bankers and traders, for the payment and supply of some fortresses. This article analyses the one signed in 1529 for Oran and Mazalquivir in greater detail. This contract encompasses three aspects: the rental of the Kingdom’s money in the North of Africa, the payment of the military and the supply of goods. The documents used as sources, on which this work is based, come from the Archivo General of Simancas.
