Abstract
Towards the end of the 1920s Málaga was immersed in the Dictatorship of Primo de Rivera. Although the political change that took place in 1931 could already be sensed in the air, traditional values found a powerful vehicle for their expression in mass religious manifestations. This is why this article focuses on the Pilgrimage of Zamarilla, promoted in 1929 by the ruling classes in their eagerness to identify the success of popular festivities as a sign of consensus about the political order
