Abstract
La “modernidad” de la pintura finisecular malagueña se entiende como una pseudo
renovación de la tradición realista y romántica, rechazando los extremos decadentes o las
opciones más comprometidas. La tumba del poeta, presentada a la Exposición Nacional de
1901, es la obra de Pedro Sáenz que mejor muestra esta estética de la conciliación entre la
corrección académica y una sensibilidad finisecular moderada, ajustada a los gustos burgueses
mayoritarios. El presente trabajo aborda el carácter de este sincretismo que utiliza la recuperación
de la mitología grecorromana para encontrar respuestas a inquietudes artísticas y vitales.

The following essay deals with the nature of this syncretism that recovers the Greco-Roman mythology to find answers to artistic and vital concerns.
