Abstract

In our current cibersociety of 21st Century, with its dematerialization of audiovisual works, multiple screens and emergence of new expressive languages made possible by technological advances, a new visual culture has expanded, the one of the first generation formed in the digital era. Consequently, we are facing a new issue in audiovisual communication that requires reformulating theoretical approaches. We will focus here on the need to establish new classification criteria that enable to differentiate audiovisual Works based on its duration, since the classic divisions typical of analogical film (shortmedium-feature films), are no longer valid. This contribution will study the evolution of film’s length and the new ‘several second’s video festivals’, trying to propose a new classifying category based on the length of audiovisual products in the digital era.
