Abstract

In the first decade of the 20th century Jacques Lipchitz was a young man recently arrived in Paris. With no formal academic training, he was fascinated by the advances in cubist painting. Lipchitz however, did not simply seek to emulate the techniques employed in the latter in sculpture, as was the norm among sculptors at the turn of the century. His interest and efforts would centre around the creation of a true cubist sculpture which owed nothing to the movement in painting of the same name
