Abstract

This theoretical work addresses the use and consumption of digital technologies in adolescence, as well as the consequences of their abuse and the programmes developed by different organisations to promote responsible consumption. The introduction presents the importance of digital technologies in the knowledge society, expanding the possibilities of formal and informal educational contexts, as well as the relationship between them. Next, the consequences of the abusive use of technologies by the adolescent population are offered, as well as strategies for responsible consumption, in order to describe the risk factors, protection, symptoms and consequences of addictive behaviour to ICT. Finally, some digital resources are presented to guide minors in healthy online habits, as well as a description of the most relevant prevention and techno-educational intervention programmes to develop digital competences in adolescents for responsible surfing.
