Abstract
Spanish film production maintains historical structural weaknesses that continue to affect it, added to the difficulties resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. The aim of this paper is to analyse the state of Spanish film production between 2019 and 2025 based on box office data, in addition to looking at the alliances and business models adopted by successful production companies. A descriptive and comparative analysis is applied from a qualitative methodology, enriched with economic data, to delve into the production and marketing processes of commercially successful Spanish cinema. Based on the data analysis, a sample of Spanish films screened in the domestic market between 2019 and 2025 is selected from the box office data published by the ICAA. The results show a concentration of 68% of all Spanish cinema box office takings in the ten most commercial films. The prominent place of television channels is maintained, with VoD platforms as new agents, international distributors and the Economic Interest Grouping formula. A continuity of the previous dynamics can be seen. Business dynamics and patterns of production in Spanish cinema did not change significantly during the pandemic.
