Abstract
Due to pragmatism that, induced by the force of historic events, developed hispanic modern monarchy, this one, fervent protector of catholicism, however, had to admit heretic people staying in its territory. That concession to heterodoxy caused ambivalent effects: on the one hand, it was repulsed by the most traditional organisms of the society –like the Inquisition–, on the other, it created a propitious atmosphere for the knowledge of the other, devoid of stereotypes, in addition to favour tolerant feelings. In this article we analyze how the phenomenon affected to Malaga, whose geographic and economic characteristics caused that lots of foreigners lived in the city.
