A1 Expósito-García, Alfonso A1 Sanchis-Llopis, Juan Alberto K1 Pequeñas y medianas empresas - Gestión K1 Creatividad en la empresa K1 Econometría AB This article examines the impact of product, process and organisational innovations on twoalternative dimensions of business performance: finance and operations. Two indicatorscapture financial performance: sales increase and production cost reduction. Operational firmperformance is captured by two alternative indicators: productive capacity augmentation andquality improvement of product/service provided by the firm. Using a wide-ranging sample ofSpanish small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), our findings highlight the significant impact ofinnovation upon both these dimensions of business performance, although they differ regarding thetype of innovation and the performance indicator considered. Furthermore, our results indicatethat the relationship between innovation choices in SMEs and business performance should beanalysed from a multi-dimensional approach. These findings reveal significant implications forinnovation policies and strategies for SMEs.
