A1 Ruiz-Párraga, Gema Teresa A1 López-Martínez, Alicia Eva K1 Dolor - Aspectos psicológicos K1 Trauma psíquico K1 Evitación (Psicología) K1 Resiliencia (Psicología) AB Background The degree to which shared vulnerability andprotective factors for chronic pain and trauma-related symptoms contribute to pain adjustment in chronic pain patientswho have experienced a traumatic event remains unclear.Purpose The purpose is to test a hypothetical model of thecontribution of experiential avoidance, resilience and painacceptance to pain adjustment in a sample of 229 chronicback pain patients who experienced a traumatic event beforethe onset of pain.Methods Structural equation modelling was used to test thelinear relationships between the variables.Results The empirical model shows significant relationshipsbetween the variables: resilience on pain acceptance andtrauma-related symptoms, experiential avoidance on traumarelated symptoms and experiential avoidance, pain acceptanceand trauma-related symptoms on pain adjustment.Conclusions This study demonstrates the role of a vulnerability pathway (i.e. experiential avoidance) and a protectivepathway (i.e. resilience and pain acceptance) in adaptation topain after a traumatic event.
