RT Journal Article T1 Influence of time of residence on the sense of community and satisfaction with life in immigrants in Spain: The moderating effects of sociodemographic characteristics A1 Millán-Franco, Mario A1 Gómez-Jacinto, Luís A1 Hombrados-Mendieta, Isabel A1 García-Martín, Miguel Ángel A1 García-Cid, Alba K1 Calidad de vida K1 Comunidad K1 Inmigrantes - España AB Migration is an example of adaptation with enduring effectsover time and in different cultures. Few studies haveanalyzed the effect of the sense of community (SOC) onsatisfaction with life (SWL) over time while taking intoaccount the moderating effects of sociodemographic char acteristics. We propose a model that explains the influenceof time of residence on the SOC and SWL. It washypothesized that the SOC has a positive influence onSWL and that SWL is moderated by sociodemographiccharacteristics and cultural differences. Participants were2,211 immigrants residing in Malaga (Spain). Results show apositive association between years of residence and theSOC and the SWL. A positive association was found betweenthe SOC and SWL. This study shows the relevance ofanalyzing the moderating effects of sociodemographiccharacteristics in different immigrant groups rather thanaccording to the migration process as a whole to developspecific intervention strategies.
