RT Journal Article T1 Primera cita de Amaranthus powellii subsp. powellii (Amaranthaceae) para la región del Lazio (Italia Central) con observaciones taxonómicas, morfológicas, corológicas y ecológicas A1 Iamonico, D. (Amaranthaceae) is agenus consisting of about 70 species, about40 of which are native to America, whilethe remaining ones are native to the othercontinents (Costea et al. 2001). Most of thespecies recorded in Europe are consideredalien species causing social (allergenic plants),economical (crop weeds) and ecologicalimpacts (loss of biodiversity). Moreover, the whole genus is considered critical as fortaxonomy and nomenclature, and for thefrequent misapplication of names. The Amaranthus hybridus group includessix closely related species (sensu Costea etal. 2001) that are considered the most criticalones both for taxonomy and for morphologicalvariability. Consequently, the identification ofthe species within this group is very difficult. In this paper, A. powellii S. Watson subsp.powellii is recorded for Lazio region (centralItaly) for the first time. The morphology ofthe species, its distribution, its invasive status, ecological features for Italy and taxonomicalnotes are also treated. Moreover, a comparisonwith the related subspecies A. powellii S.Watson subsp. bouchonii (Thell.) Costea &Carretero is provided. PB Universidad de Málaga.
