Alow variability in the biochemical profile among theP. damselae ssp. damselae isolates tested wasobserved (acetoine production), although theseprofiles were clearly different from that ofP. damselae ssp. piscicida. The analysis of ureCand 16S rRNA genes confirmed the phenotypiccharacterization of the isolates as P. damselae ssp.damselae.
