BAN disease is the most limiting factor of mango trees in the Mediterranean region because it severely affects mango yield in seasons when weather conditions are favorable to develop the infection by P. syringae pv. syringae (Gutiérrez-Barranquero et al. 2012). P. syringae pv. syringae isolates from mango possess a vast arsenal of virulence factors highlighting the production of the antimetabolite toxin mangotoxin (Arrebola et al. 2003). Other important adaptation traits were also present is P. syringae pv. syringae isolates from mango, such as the production of the exopolysaccharide (EPS) cellulose.
