The resonators are implementedas substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) rectangularcavities, which are piled vertically in a multilayer board. Thecoupling elements are composed by slots opened in the horizontalmetallization layers separating the resonators. Each couplingelement introduce simultaneous cross-couplings among severalresonators. The principal contribution of this work consistson the proposal of a highly flexible design technique for theimplementation of any arbitrary coupling matrix with theformerly described physical structure. The technique relies onthe hypothesis that the overall effect of several coupling elementsis approximately equal to the lineal combination of the effectsof the individual elements. The versatility of the proposal haslead to the design and implementation of a variety of filterswith very different coupling matrix topologies, sharing the samephysical structure and the same type of coupling elements.Besides, given the order of the filter, its size remains the samedespite the topology of its coupling matrix. In this document oneof these designs is discussed: a box-section filter with asymmetricresponse including one transmission zero.
