AB En su Diario de una viajera durante la guerra (1871) la escritora francesa George Sandafirma que no tenemos derecho a olvidar. La autora de esta autobiografía sobre el conflictoque enfrentó a Francia y Prusia había sufrido como una derrota personal el fracaso de laSegunda República de 1848. Un siglo después otra mujer, la abogada Victoria Kent, igualmentepreocupada por la falta de instrucción del pueblo, la carencia de derechos de las mujeres y lasduras condiciones de vida en las cárceles, contemplaba con dolor el final, también forzado,del ensayo republicano español. Málaga, su ciudad natal, es el escenario de este artículo sobreel año anterior al de la proclamación de la II República. Sus obreros, campesinos, políticos eintelectuales se debatían entonces entre el afán de permanencia y la voluntad de cambio. Son losprotagonistas de unas páginas elaboradas en el 75º aniversario de aquella primavera que trajo elsufragio femenino. Eran tiempos de ira y esperanza.
AB In her Traveller’s diary in wartime (1871) French writer George Sand said that we are notallowed to forget. The author of this autobiographical work on the incident that brought intoconflict France and Prussia had suffered as a personal defeat the failure of the Second Republicof 1848. One century later another woman, the lawyer Victoria Kent, also concerned aboutthe poor education of the working class, the women’s lack of rights and the prisons’ tough lifeconditions, witnessed to her sorrow the likewise forced end of the Spanish republican attempt.The city of Málaga, where she was born, is the scene of this article on the year before the onein which the II Republic was proclaimed. At that time the working class, peasants, politiciansand thinkers in Málaga were torn between their wish of continuance and their determination tochange. They are the major figures of these lines written on the 75th anniversary of that springwhich brougth the women’s vote. Those were times of rage and hope.
