The binary cements were approximately 50 % KCSA /50 % fly ash (FA) and the ternary cements were around 25 % KCSA/ 50 % FA/ 25 % belite clinker (KB). These cements were hydrated in the absence (BC, "blended cement") and in the presence of an alkaline activator (HAC, "hybrid alkaline cement") to enhance the reaction of the SCMs. The presence of the activator (50 wt% Na2SO4 + 50 wt% CaSO4) has been a positive effect on the development of mechanical strength. The results of the research suggest that the production of hybrid cements using calcium sulphoaluminate clinker with fly ash and solid activators may be a viable alternative to conventional Portland for applications that do not require high strength development.
