Project-based learning (PBL) isone of the best ways to promote self-learning and simultaneouslyboost motivation. In this paper, we present our experience ofdesigning a PBL course for Industrial Informatics. We provide allthe designing details that could help other teachers to reproducea similar experience. Furthermore, we report on the impact thatthis project has on student satisfaction and motivation. The newIndustry 4.0 topic allows us to carry out complete projects, integratingdifferent technologies and tools. Moreover, the selection ofopen-source and standard free technologies makes easy and cheapthe access to hardware and software platforms used. Surveystaught us that tuning the courses towards developing real projectson the field, has a large impact on acceptance, learning objectivesachievements and motivation towards the course content.
