RT Journal Article T1 Learning about Migration through Economics: A Development Education Approach A1 Pastor-García, María Inmaculada A1 Rodríguez-Barquero, A. Francisco A1 González-Alegre, Juan K1 Emigración e inmigración - Aspectos económicos K1 Educación y desarrollo AB Most economics handbooks describe multiple applied market-relatedissues and situations from a purely economic perspective. The social orenvironmental aspects of these issues are, however, rarely discussed and, in anycase, considered of residual importance. This gap can be filled by introducingdevelopment education (DE) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)into economics teaching, as these encompass the three dimensions ofsustainability: economic sustainability, social inclusion and environmentalprotection. The DE approach analyses social and environmental problems thatneed to be taken into account in economics subjects. It also involves increasinganalytical and critical capacity, as well as offering a multidimensional perspectiveto economics or related fields. This article aims to highlight different economicconcepts in which DE can be embedded. We will make use of standard economicconcepts that can be found in a standard syllabus or in textbooks used in mostuniversities around the world, such as the popular handbooks written by Mankiwand Taylor (2017), Blanchard (2017), Samuelson and Nordhaus (2010) andAcemoglu, Laibson and List (2022).
