RT Journal Article T1 Azuperylene: The Nonalternant Isomer of Perylene A1 Liu, Shengpei A1 Díaz-Fernández, Marcos A1 Zhang, Menglin A1 Huang, Fei A1 Chen, Yong A1 Yang, Yudong A1 Marín-Beloqui, José Manuel A1 Lan, Jingbo A1 You, Jingsong A1 Casado-Cordón, Juan A1 Zhang, Cheng K1 Química física K1 Electrónica órganica AB The isoelectronic isomer of perylene, hereaftercalled as azuperylene, has been prepared. Electronicstructure analysis reveals that the new isomer can bedescribed as a union of two antiparallel azulenes in whichthe azulene-type aromatic character of the starting azuleneis partially retained. Four 2,8-dialkoxy (i.e., ethoxy,n-butoxy, n-hexyloxy, and n-octyloxy) functionalizedderivatives of the new isomer core have been prepared. The solid-state structures of the new compounds havebeen resolved showing exceptional herringbone π–πstacking ideal for charge transport. Organic field-effecttransistors on sublimated substrates display an excellenthole transport mobility up to 1.03 cm2 V−1 s−1 that largelysurpasses that of perylene and reveals the great potentialfor charge transport of this new class of nonbenzenoidcompounds.
