AB El paulatino crecimiento de la autoridad episcopal en la Hispania tardoantigua hasta llegara la época visigoda, tiene una importante relación con cuestiones fiscales de la vida ciudadana.Hasta el momento, la investigación en esta materia se ha detenido en asuntos relativos a otrosaspectos del poder episcopal y sus relaciones sociales. En el presente artículo, trataremos deanalizar la participación del obispo en materias de índole fiscal relativas a la supervisión de laexacción de impuestos del municipio.
AB The growth of the Episcopal authority in Late Roman Hispania and the VisigothicKingdom has a strong relationship with fiscal aspects of urban life. Until now the research onthis matter has been dispersed between works concerning other sides of bishops´ power andsocial links. In the present article we point out the fiscal links of the bishopric at this time andwe try to resolve whether the bishops were or not involved in collecting municipal taxes.
