Abstract
The Geografika of Strabo can be considered a synthesis between the previous
cartography-centred geography and a history-centred view of space and territories. The Roman
Empire has helped a lot to make clear this dimension in the new ways and perspectives
created by his new dimensions and the changes it entailed; in his chorographical books Strabo
developed a kind of enquiry closely related to the need of understanding and explaining this
new process.
