The aim of this research was to explore the influence of Perceived Emotional Intelligence (PEI) over behavioral measures of aggressive behavior above and beyond the effects of gender, age and personality traits. The Trait Meta-Mood Scale, Big-Five Inventory and the Aggressive Provocation Questionnaire were administered to a 338 Spanish community sample, male (25.7%) and female (74.3%), ranging from 19 to 53 yr. old (X = 24.9; SD = 7.2). Controlling the effects of age, gender and personality, PEI subscales (Emotional Attention, Clarity y Repair) were found to predict either positively or negatively some responses to provoking scenarios: feelings: frustrated, irritated; and behaviors: no-response. The results show evidence of predictive and incremental validity of PEI dimensions over aggressive behavior among adults.
