Abstract
This paper studies the classical sources used by Petrus Cunaeus in his Sardi venales, an example of Neo-Latin Menippean satire, published in Leiden in 1612, which continues the line already initiated in this genre by Justus Lipsius in his Somnium. As a approach to the work and its author, some interesting facts about the humanistic training of Petrus Cunaeus. In addition, the fundamental aspects of the historical and social context that surrounded Cunaeus at the time of the publication of his Sardi venales are discussed, since, like any satirical work worth its salt, its content and structure are closely linked to the time and society of his time. The paper concludes with a small sample of the classical sources used by the author in the work and some conclusions that bring the paper to a close.
