Abstract

Serbia has favourable conditions for developing oenology and viticulture and, thus, wine tourism destinations. A study was conducted based on open data analysis and evaluation to determine the possibility of producing wine destinations in Serbia. The study uses environmental data (slope, altitude, climate, etc.) to build the Digital Elevation Model (DEM), land use data - CORINE Land Cover 2018 (European Environment Agency, n.d.) and hydrography. Open sources through social media were used to obtain socio-economic data, such as natural areas, hiking and cycling routes, etc. All data were geolocated and processed in natural-geographical and socio-economic groups with the ArcGIS 10.8 software package. This research is a new contribution using geodata for the tourist valorisation of the vineyard area. By apply- ing the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method and using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), results show the advantages of specific wine regions over others for developing wine tourism. These are the following wine-growing regions: Subotica, Fruška Gora (northern Serbia), Šumadija and Niš (central and southern Serbia) and wine-growing regions close to Belgrade
