El Ayuntamiento de Alcoy en el siglo XVIII : la renuncia como práctica generalizada

Abstract

Con la abolición de los fueros en 1707, y la sustitución del modelo municipal vigente hasta ese momento en tierras valencianas por el de regidores al estilo castellano, la villa de Alcoy pasó a tener ocho regidores, nombrados por el rey, que debían ejercer sus cargos con una duración vitalicia. En el presente trabajo nos proponemos abordar las dificultades que en determinados momentos del siglo XVIII se tuvieron para completar la dotación inicialmente asignada al ayuntamiento alcoyano, así como descubrir el porqué de ese rechazo a incorporarse en el consistorio por parte de los individuos seleccionados para dichos cargos.With the abolition of privileges in 1707 and the replacement of the existing municipal model in Valencian by the regidores of the Castilla style, the town of Alcoy became to have eight council, appointed by the king, who should exercise their positions lasting lifetime. In this paper we propose to study the difficulties at certain times of the 18th Century were taken to complete the allocation initially assigned to the town hall of Alcoy and, at the same time, discover the reason for this rejection to join the consistory by individuals selected for such positions.
