Traducción y reformulación intralingüística: mejora de legibilidad de textos institucionales

Abstract

The aim of our study is to examine the readability of the legal and administrative Spanish used in the informative pamphlet that the Spanish Ministry for Home Affairs produced to explain Law 12/2009 to applicants for international protection. To that end, we have simplified the pamphlet using Ciapuscio’s (2001) simplification techniques and Hurtado Albir’s (2001) translation techniques. We have evaluated the readability of both the original and the simplified versions of the pamphlet using two formulae for Spanish, the Flesch-Szigriszt Index (Szigriszt, 1993) and the Fernández Huerta Index (Fernández Huerta, 1959), and updated the pamphlet’s design accordingly
